WHERE Incident Happened: Intersection of State Hwy 80 and County Hwy RC

What happened:

On September 3, 2026, at approximately 7:40 A.M., the Richland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a school bus on State Highway 80 at County Highway RC.

A school bus owned and operated by Kobussen Bus Service was traveling southbound on State Highway 80 and was turning left onto County Highway RC when it was struck on the right side by a northbound vehicle.

No serious injuries have been reported at this time.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Office is awaiting review of the school bus’s on-board dash camera footage to assist in corroborating witness statements obtained at the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no further information is available at this time.

WHERE Incident Happened: County Highway B, Lone Rock, WI 53556

What happened:

Sheriff Clay Porter reports that the Richland County Sheriff’s Office was assigned a CyberTip as an affiliated member of the Wisconsin Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Taskforce for reported possession of child pornography.

On August 31st, 2026, Deputies completed a search warrant as a result of this investigation. Deputies took into custody, Jonathan D. Moore, 21 years old from Lone Rock, for two counts of Possession of Child Pornography and one count of Possession of Child Sex Doll.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in this investigation by Wisconsin ICAC Taskforce, Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI)-Digital Evidence Unit (DEU), and Richland Center Police Department.

WHERE Incident Happened: Lone Rock Shell Gas Station (US Hwy 14)

What happened:

On August 30, 2026, at approximately 12:05 p.m., deputies from the Sauk and Richland County Sheriff’s Office’s responded to the Lone Rock Shell Station on U.S. Highway 14 for a reported stabbing.

Witnesses assisted in keeping the suspect at the scene until deputies arrived. Upon arrival, deputies took Joseph Schultz, 35, of Lone Rock, into custody. Schultz was later transported to the Richland County Jail and charged with Attempted 1st Degree Intentional Homicide.

The victim, a 42-year-old male from Madison, sustained multiple knife wounds. Witnesses and Lone Rock EMS provided initial treatment at the scene before the victim was transported to UW–Madison for further medical treatment. The victim is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.

Investigators later determined that the victim and Schultz were not known to each other.

Lone Rock Fire and Middleton EMS also assisted during the incident.

The incident remains under investigation.

WHERE Incident Happened: On State Hwy 58 at Smyth Hollow Rd

What happened:

On August 27, 2026, deputies with the Richland County Sheriff’s Office responded to State Highway 58 near Smyth Hollow Road for a reported two-vehicle head-on collision.

Two juveniles were occupants of one vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle was conscious and alert but reported neck and rib pain. Cazenovia EMS transported the driver to The Richland Hospital for evaluation. The two juveniles were evaluated by EMS and later transported to The Richland Hospital by their parents.

The preliminary investigation indicates the southbound vehicle entered the northbound lane while negotiating a curve, lost control, and struck the second vehicle.

State Highway 58 was closed between Lost Hollow Drive and Lloyd for approximately 30 minutes while emergency personnel responded to the scene.

WHERE Incident Happened: Town of Ithaca

What happened:

On August 27, 2026, at approximately 7:08 A.M., the Richland County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a farming accident involving a skid loader in the Town of Ithaca.

Richland EMS and Ithaca First Responders were dispatched to the scene, where they located a juvenile male victim who had sustained a serious head injury. Emergency medical personnel immediately began life-saving measures.

The juvenile was transported by Richland EMS to The Richland Hospital for further medical treatment. Despite the efforts of emergency responders and medical personnel, the juvenile succumbed to his injuries.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. No further information regarding the victim will be released due to the victim’s age.

The Sheriff’s Office extends its condolences to the victim’s family and friends and recognizes the efforts of the emergency responders and medical personnel who responded to the incident.

WHERE Incident Happened: US Hwy 14 & Twin Bluffs Drive

What happened: On 08/17/2026, Deputies responded to US Hwy 14 & Twin Bluffs Dr. for a report of a two vehicle accident with one driver ejected. Richland Center Fire Department and Richland County EMS were also paged. Deputies learned that a Ford Escape was on Twin Bluffs Dr. attempting to turn onto US Hwy 14 when it was struck by a milk truck traveling east bound on US Hwy 14. Witnesses to the crash stated they saw the Ford Escape, operated by 38 year old Andres Ixta, fail to come to a complete stop at the stop sign on Twin Bluffs Dr., before entering the highway. The Ford Escape was also reported to Richland County Dispatch driving on the gravel bike trail between Gotham and Twin Bluffs shortly before the crash. UW Medflight was requested to land at the Richland Hospital to transport the driver of the Ford Escape to UW Hospital due to severe injuries after being ejected. The milk truck driver, 58 year old Wesley Nelson from Dodgeville, cooperated in the Sheriff’s Office investigation. The Wisconsin State Patrol was requested to assist with a crash reconstruction and commercial vehicle inspection. US Highway 14 was shutdown for several hours during the investigation. The investigation is still on going with the assistance of the Wisconsin State Patrol.

WHO Involved: Nathan Haydenburg, 30, of Gotham, WI

WHERE Incident Happened: 25739 State Hwy 58

What happened: On Saturday, June 20th at approximately 7:15am, Emergency responders were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash at the address of 25739 State Highway 58.The investigation determined that Nathan Haydenburg, 30, of Gotham, was traveling northbound on State Highway 58 at a high rate of speed, according to a witness. Haydenburg lost control of the vehicle, which left the roadway and rolled over multiple times before striking a nearby residence. First responders arrived on scene and were able to extricate Haydenburg from the vehicle. He was transported by Richland EMS to Richland Hospital for evaluation and treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Following the investigation, Haydenburg was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI), 3rd Offense.

The juvenile involved in this incident has been released from the hospital. A thorough investigation has been completed and the driver of the truck is not being ticketed or charged in the case.

RICHLAND COUNTY, WI — On June 2, 2026, emergency responders were dispatched to the intersection of County Highway RC and Raymond Lane for a report of a vehicle versus bicycle crash. Preliminary investigation indicates that a truck traveling eastbound on County Hwy RC attempted to navigate around a juvenile who was riding a bicycle, also traveling eastbound on Hwy RC. The juvenile veered into the lane of traffic and the operator of the truck was unable to avoid the bicycle. The juvenile sustained injuries as a result of the collision. Emergency medical personnel provided treatment at the scene before transporting the juvenile to Richland Hospital. Due to the severity of the injuries, the juvenile was subsequently transported by Med Flight to the University of Wisconsin Hospital for further medical care. The crash remains under investigation. No additional information is being released at this time.
