Reliance Telephone and the Richland County Jail are now providing an option for inmates to rent an Inmate Texting device. The inmate will get a dedicated phone number and device to directly text friends and family.
The monthly fee for the device and service is $4.00. The fee will be deducted automatically each month the device is assigned to an inmate. If the inmate doesn’t have $4.00 at the time of rental a prorated rental fee will be charged.
Outbound messages up to 160 characters are $.09
Inbound messages up to 160 characters that the inmate accepts are $.09. Long messages sent will be split up and billed as individual messages. If the inmate doesn’t view an inbound message or blocks that contact, there will be no fee charged for that message.
Funding/ Online Phone Card Transfers
Funds may be added to an account at anytime using the http://jail.im or http://reliancetelephone.com websites. A credit card can be used to put money on an inmate’s account to use for texting.
Online phone card purchases can also be used to fund the inmate’s texting account. The app allows you to enter the card number and transfer the remaining balance of the card to the inmate’s texting device. Phone cards purchased directly from the facility commissary may not be transferred to the inmate’s texting account.
