Records may be requested by submitting this form. Completed records requests will be mailed or emailed to the requestor, or may be picked up in person at the Sheriff’s Office. For the fastest turn-around time, please provide your email address so that we can email your completed request to you.
Please note:
- We DO NOT fax completed requests.
- As of November 20, 2024 all open records requests will have a minimum fee of $25, with additional fees for reports, radio/phone recordings, videos, etc… These fees will need to be paid before any records will be digitally or physically sent to the requestor.
- Requests may take up to three business weeks to process.

As of October 1, 2018, the Richland County Sheriff’s Office will no longer process requests for accident reports (MV4000) or crash reports (DT4000). The Department of Transportation is the records custodian for these reports.
Richland County has partnered with CarFAX. To request an accident/crash report, individuals, insurance companies, law firms, or any other party can submit a request via https://www.crashdocs.org/.
- Our office will process currently outstanding requests for accident/ crash reports and any additional requests that are received through October 1, 2018.
- Please note that our office remains the records custodian for information that may accompany an accident/ crash report, including narrative/ supplementary reports, photographs, and video recordings. Please continue to contact our office if you wish to request this information.
