Investigation at Bunker Hill Campground – Updated

TIME of Incident: 9:30 AM

WHO Involved: Corby J. Neef, 54, of Pardeeville, WI
David A. Harp, 61, of Baraboo, WI

WHERE Incident Happened: 30858 County Hwy I, Cazenovia

What happened: On 05/25/23, the Richland County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the death of a 54 year old Pardeeville man at the Bunker Hill Campground, in Cazenovia. Corby J. Neef was found deceased around 9:30 am with multiple gunshot wounds. The crime scene was processed with the assistance of several law enforcement agencies and it was determined that the gunshot wounds were not self inflicted. Two people of interest were on scene and detained for questioning. David A. Harp, 61 of Baraboo, WI was later arrested and charged with 1st Degree Reckless Homicide and is currently in the Richland County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond. The other person of interest who had been detained was later released with no charges. The investigation is ongoing at this time. Investigation at Bunker Hill Campground.

TIME of Incident:  9:30 AM

WHERE Incident Happened: 30858 County Hwy I, Cazenovia

What happened: On May 25th, 2023 at approximately 9:30 AM, Cazenvoia EMS was requested to Bunker Hill Campground for an unresponsive male. It was determined after EMS arrived on scene that the male party was deceased. During the investigation it was determined that there was suspicious circumstances involving the death of the male party. Assistance was requested from The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, The Wisconsin State Crime Lab, Wisconsin State Patrol and the Richland Center Police Department. At this time the investigation is still ongoing. There is no danger to the public. More information will be released as soon as possible.

Milk Truck Rollover Results in Injury

TIME of Incident: 10:30 AM

WHO Involved: David S Rott, 72, of Richland Center

WHERE Incident Happened: USH 14 just West of CTH KK in Akan Township

What happened:Rott was operating a 2010 Mack Semi pulling a trailer traveling east on USH 14 near CTH KK. The semi traveled into the southbound ditch and eventually overturned, causing severe damage to semi and injuries to Rott. Rott was transported by Richland EMS to the Richland Hospital due to his injuries. Due to witness statements, the Wisconsin State Patrol was contacted and the crash is still under investigation.

Logging Accident Leads to Death

TIME of Incident: 5:02 PM

WHO Involved: Joseph Abitz, 54, of Dubuque, IA

WHERE Incident Happened: County Hwy OO

What happened:Sheriff Clay Porter reports that on 03/29/2023, at approximately 5:02 P.M. Iowa County 911 received the initial call of an emergency incident and transferred the call to Richland County 911 regarding a male party that was involved in an logging accident. The witness stated that they were working on a log skidder and the hydraulic line broke, hitting the victim in the face, causing him to be unresponsive. The victim was wedged along the tire and the engine compartment of the log skidder when emergency personnel arrived on scene. Muscoda EMS, Fire and Police responded to the scene. Avoca Police was also notified of the incident and all responding units were directed to field where the accident took place. Emergency personnel were able to get the victim off the log skidder, where medical personnel began their medical treatment. The victim was transported to the Richland Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. During the investigation it was found that the victim was removing a pressure hydraulic accumulators and unknown to the victim one accumulator was still under pressure. While attempting to remove it the pressure caused the accumulator to come lose and hit the victim in the head.

Sextonville Man Arrested for Child Pornography

TIME of Incident: 8:30 AM

WHO Involved: Jarrett P. Fillyaw, 38, of Sextonville, WI

WHERE Incident Happened: County Highway B, Village of Sextonville

What happened: Sheriff Clay Porter reports that on 03/15/2023, the Richland County Special Response Team executed a search warrant at an address on County Hwy B in the Village of Sextonville. The Richland County Sheriff’s Office received a cybertip from the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force regarding sexually explicit images of children that were downloaded at the above address. During the search warrant, Jarrett P. Fillyaw was detained and numerous electronic devices were seized. Digital Forensic Analysts with DCI were on scene and previewed the devices, locating numerous videos and images that are suspected to be illegal. Fillyaw was arrested and taken to jail on 59 counts of Possession of Child Pornography and 1 count of Felony Bail Jumping. All charges will be forwarded to the Richland County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

Sheriff Clay Porter would like to credit the success of this initial investigation to multiple agencies working together to combat the exploitation of children.

One Dead in House Fire

TIME of Incident:  11:40 PM

WHERE Incident Happened: 20375 Tuckaway Valley Rd, Richland Center, WI 53581

What happened: Richland County Dispatch received a 911 call of a house fire at 20375 Tuckaway Valley Rd, Richland Center, WI 53581 from a neighbor. Responding Deputies arrived to a house fully engulfed and collapsed. A male party was located standing near the shed next to the house. The male party stated that he was able to escape through a main floor window, but believed his wife was still inside the residence. Due to the house being collapsed and fully engulfed in flames, deputies were unable to attempt rescue. Male party was transported to the Richland hospital via Richland EMS and Richland Fire worked on extinguishing the fire. Deputies spoke with male party at the hospital after he had been medically examined, and he stated that it was roughly 10:45pm when he noticed the fire and escaped out of the house. The male party stated he was unable to contact anyone at the time he escaped the residence. The Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) was contacted for a Fire Marshal to Investigate the scene and assist in the search of male parties wife. Emergency personnel were eventually able to conduct a search of the residence and located a deceased party.

This complaint is still under investigation.

Car vs Pedestrian

TIME of Incident: 6:45 PM

WHO Involved: Bruce C Anderson, 66, of Lone Rock, WI
Jamie A Zinkle, 33, of Lone Rock, WI

WHERE Incident Happened: County Hwy B just East of County Hwy BA

What happened: Sheriff Clay Porter reports on 02/07/2023 at approximately 6:45pm, Richland County Dispatch received a report of a vehicle that had struck a pedestrian on County Hwy B just East of the intersection of County Hwy BA. Deputies arrived on scene minutes after the call was reported to dispatch and were able to render aid to the injured pedestrian, Bruce Anderson until Medical First Responders arrived on scene. Deputies made contact with the reporting party and operator of striking vehicle, Jamie Zinkle on scene to gather information regarding the incident. Zinkle did not show any signs of impairment while speaking with deputies and voluntarily submitted to testing. Anderson was transported to the Richland Hospital by Lone Rock EMS for life threatening injuries. Anderson was transported by Med Flight to UW Madison where he succumbed to his injuries. The vehicle was removed from the scene by Wegner’s Auto Service and Wisconsin State Patrol assisted with the Technical Reconstruction of the crash.

This crash is still under investigation.

Shots Fired Incident Leads to Arrest

TIME of Incident:2:20 AM

WHO Involved: Michael Krueger, 28, of Westby, WI

WHERE Incident Happened: Sylvan Township, Richland County, WI

What happened: Deputies were called to the report of a male who had stolen a handgun out of a truck, fired several rounds into the side of a residential home, and then left the scene at approximately 2:20 AM in Sylvan Township. Deputies arrived on scene and located several bullet holes in the side of the residence as well as several spent shell casings near the driveway. Female complainant stated her and the suspect got into a verbal domestic argument and the suspect threatened to shoot another male party who he knew was located inside the residence. The suspect then proceeded to shoot several rounds into the side of the residence. The suspect, Michael Krueger was later apprehended by the Westby Police Department. Krueger is currently in the Richland County Jail awaiting a bail hearing. No injuries are reported.

Crash Results in OWI and Drug Arrest

TIME of Incident: 5:11 P.M.

WHO Involved: Brittany Koproski, 33, of Mosinee WI

WHERE Incident Happened: State Highway 60 Near Riverview Ridge Drive

Sheriff Clay Porter reports that on 12/14/2022, Richland County Deputies responded to a single vehicle crash on State Hwy 60. The reporting parties advised the female driver and only occupant of the vehicle exited the vehicle after crashing in to the woods and fled on foot. Deputies located the vehicle near Riverview Ridge Drive. Muscoda Fire and EMS where requested and the Richland Center Police Department arrived on scene to assist. Richland Center Police K9 Teddy was deployed to track the suspect that fled the scene. With K9 Teddy’s assistance the driver, Brittany Koprowski, was located hiding in the woods. Deputies observed signs that Brittany was possibly under the influence of drugs. Methamphetamine and Drug Paraphernalia where later located in the vehicle. Brittany was transported to the Hospital and later arrested for numerous drug related charges. All charges were forwarded to the Richland County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

Fatal Crash

TIME of Incident: 1:59 A.M.

WHO Involved: Werner Hudak, 75, of County Highway Q, Richland Center

WHERE Incident Happened: County Hwy Q, west of Hyatt Springs Ln

On 12/15/2022, around 2 am, the Richland County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call stating that there was a male party located in the creek near a car that had driven into a creek on County Highway Q. A deputy from the Richland County Sheriff’s Office along with two Officers from the Richland Center Police Department responded to the scene. Life-saving efforts were attempted but were unsuccessful. Werner Hudak, 75, of Richland Center was pronounced dead at the scene by the Richland County Coroners Officer.
