PRESS RELEASE #2 – Search Continues on Wisconsin River

For immediate release: April 7, 2015

Richland Center, WI: The search for a 4 year old female who fell into the Wisconsin River continues this morning. Lone Rock Fire and EMS is currently being assisted by Spring Green Fire, Blue River Fire, Cazenovia Fire, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and Richland County Emergency Management. DNR Wardens are searching by both boat and plane, and the Baraboo Police Department is searching with a drone. Additionally, the Sauk County Dive Team and Iowa County Tech Rescue Team are in route to assist in the search.
Officials understand the emotional impact this has on our community and appreciates all the help that concerned citizens have offered. However, at this time we are asking for people not to self deploy, as there are plenty of resources out on the water. The next press release will be offered at 3:00pm.

PRESS RELEASE #1 – Search Continues on Wisconsin River

For immediate release: April 7, 2015

Richland Center, WI: At approximately 6:15pm last night a 4 year old female fell into the north side of the Wisconsin River near the east side of the boat landing in Gotham. Lone Rock Fire and EMS were dispatched at approximately 6:30pm and were assisted by Spring Green Fire, Blue River Fire, Cazenovia Fire, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and Richland County Emergency Management. The search for the child was discontinued at 9:00pm due to darkness and weather conditions affecting visibility.
The search resumed this morning at 6:30am. Lone Rock Fire and EMS is currently being assisted by Spring Green Fire, Blue River Fire, Cazenovia Fire, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and Richland County Emergency Management. DNR Wardens are searching by both boat and plane, and the Baraboo Police Department is searching with a drone.

Charges Pending in Battery and False Imprisonment Case

arrestedOn 2/22/2015 the Sheriff’s Department Communications Center received a 911 call at 8:33am stating a female had been held against her will overnight and was a victim of a battery. The female escaped in the early morning and fled to a family residence to call for help. Richland County Sheriff Deputies responded and met with the victim. The victim had suffered several physical injuries and was taken by private vehicle to the hospital. Richland County Sheriff Deputies went to the location of the incident and searched for the suspect. The suspect was located hiding in the home and was taken into custody. The subject also has an active arrest warrant out of Illinois.

Vince Zaccone of Chicago, IL was arrested and charged in the incident.

The incident remains under investigation.

Charges Filed in Drug Case

Richland Center Police Chief John Annear and Richland County Sheriff Jim Bindl report that charges have been filed by the Richland County District Attorney’s Office on three subjects stemming from multiple investigations conducted by the Richland-Iowa-Grant Drug Task Force.

William S. Johnson, 25, of Richland Center was charged with one count of Delivery of a schedule I drug, a class E felony.

Austin J. Von Behren, 22, of Hillpoint was charged with one count of Manufacture/Deliver Non-Narcotics, a class H felony, as well as four counts of misdemeanor Bail Jumping.

Derek M. Pederson, 27, of Boscobel was charged with two counts of Falsely Presenting a Non-Controlled (as a controlled substance), a class I felony. [Read more…]

City of Richland Center woman arrested for illegal distribution of prescription medication

Chief John Annear of the Richland Center Police Department reports that an investigation conducted by the Richland-Iowa-Grant Drug Task Force has culminated in the arrest of a Richland Center woman for illegal distribution of prescription medication. Marion D. McNamer, 37, was arrested for Maintaining a Drug Trafficking Place and three counts of Delivery of Vicodin.  All charges have been forwarded to the Richland County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.  [Read more…]

City of Richland Center Drug Bust

Chief John Annear of the Richland Center Police Department reports that, on 10-31-14, members of the Richland-Iowa-Grant Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at 538 S. Sheldon St., in the City of Richland Center. The search warrant was the culmination of a ten month investigation conducted by the Drug Task Force concerning the distribution and sale of marijuana at that address.  Items recovered during the execution of the search warrant included numerous items of drug paraphernalia, drug packaging material, scales, over a quarter pound of marijuana, and nearly $2000 in US currency.  [Read more…]

Woman Charged with Faking Cancer

StrubAs a result of a joint criminal investigation conducted by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office, Richland County Sheriff’s Office, Spring Green Police Department, and the Wisconsin Department of Justice – Division of Criminal Investigation, Theresa S. Strub, age 29, from Spring Green has been charged with nine felonies and one misdemeanor for “faking” cancer.

The investigation alleges that Strub was the beneficiary of thousands of dollars that was raised through fundraisers, charitable organizations, and personal donations to assist her with cancer treatments and personal finances. The investigation alleges Strub “faked” her illness. Strub also used social media websites to raise money for herself, claiming she was diagnosed with stage 2 stomach cancer and kidney cancer.

Strub used the social media to post photos of internal organs infected with cancer, indentifying the pictures as being hers. Strub told investigators the photos were taken on February 18, 2014. The photos included pictures of a kidney, stomach, and liver. The photos were found to be stock photos from Wikipedia.com and ultrasoundimages.com. Some photos being taken as far back as 1999. Sheriff Berglin’s 40 Year Law Enforcement to End in 2015

Richland County Sheriff Darrell Berglin has announced that he will be retiring at the end of his current term of office in January of 2015. The long time veteran of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department was first appointed sheriff by Wisconsin Governor, Tommy G. Thompson in February of 1996 to complete the term of Sheriff Fred Schram who had died in office on January first of that year. Since his appointment, Darrell Berglin has been elected to three two year terms of office and three four year terms as sheriff. At the end of his current term, Berglin will have served 19 consecutive years, the longest consecutive term as sheriff in Richland County history. [Read more…]

Daytime Burglaries

Richland County Sheriff Darrell Berglin said his department is continuing to investigate a series of daytime burglaries which have occurred in Richland County in recent weeks. Berglin said that his deputies are working in cooperation with deputies in Vernon County and Sauk County who are also investigating multiple daytime burglaries occurring in their jurisdictions.

ATV Accident on County Hwy AA

On Saturday, July 26, 2014 at approximately 6:40 pm the operator of a Polaris Ranger was traveling northbound on County Hwy AA when they lost control of the vehicle.  The ranger left the roadway hitting the gravel shoulder on the right side, the driver of the ranger then corrected the vehicle back onto the roadway and then again overcorrected causing the vehicle to roll three times in the east ditch and eventually coming to rest on it’s wheels in a driveway facing south.  The driver and middle passenger were not wearing their seatbelts and were both ejected from the vehicle.  The third occupant was wearing their seatbelt and stayed in the ranger.  The driver, age 12 along with the middle passenger, also age 12 were transported by Richland Ambulance to the Richland Hospital with injuries.  The third occupant, age 11 was taken to the Richland Hospital with minor injuries and was released.
