WHO Involved: Ryan D. Troendale, 40, of Waukon, IA
WHERE Incident Happened: US Highway 14 at Tessa Drive
What happened: On June 23, 2025 at approximately 10:30AM the Richland County Sheriff’s Office received a welfare check on a male party who appeared to be sleeping in his older-model black pickup truck on US Highway 14 between Gotham and Lone Rock. Richland County was notified by Iowa County Dispatch that the vehicle matched the description of a truck recently stolen out of the state of Iowa. Richland was also notified that the suspect involved in the theft was a male party named Ryan D. Troendale and he should be considered a threat to law enforcement based on his criminal history. The first responding deputy visually identified the truck to match the description given by Iowa. The driver, later identified as Troendale, was ordered out of the vehicle and complied, but later refused to follow instructions given by the deputy. After an additional deputy arrived on scene to assist, further commands were given, but Troendale refused to comply and was ultimately taken into custody with the use of an electronic control device also known as a Taser. The truck was confirmed to be the stolen vehicle from Iowa, and with the help of a booking photo, Troendale was positively identified as the suspect in the theft. The truck owner was notified and on June 24, 2025 the truck was returned. Troendale is currently facing a charge of Resisting or Obstructing and Officer with other charges pending in the State of Iowa.
